Christopher Atkins joins Standard & Poor's

NEW YORK: Christopher Atkins, former MD global corporate practice at Ogilvy PR, has joined McGraw-Hill subsidiary Standard & Poor's as VP, corporate communications, in charge of all external communications in the US.

NEW YORK: Christopher Atkins, former MD global corporate practice at Ogilvy PR, has joined McGraw-Hill subsidiary Standard & Poor's as VP, corporate communications, in charge of all external communications in the US.

He will be charged with helping the company, best known for its credit ratings and equity research, build its presence in the US by raising awareness of the breadth of the company’s range of finance and debt services work. 

He will report to Marjory Appel, SVP marketing and communications. The company does not have an AOR, but “when they reach out to agency, it’s generally been” Burson-Marsteller, noted Atkins.

This is his first client-side job. He was approached for the position by executive search firm Korn/Ferry International.  

“I’ve been anxious to make a move like this for several years; but my criteria were that it had to be financial services and here in New York. Those come up once in a blue moon,” Atkins said.

At Ogilvy, he has counseled clients throughout the Ogilvy network in reputation management, transaction support, litigation communications, mergers and acquisitions, employee relations, and crisis communications.  

In 2004, Atkins was named by PRWeek as one of “22 names you should have in your speed-dialer in a crisis.”
