MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF. - iPass corporate communications veteran John Sidline has teamed with tech PR experts Melissa Burns and John Giddings to start a new firm, Mobility Public Relations.

As its name implies, the agency will focus solely on mobility-related technologies, Sidline said. The company has three clients set to sign contracts and expects to begin hiring by the end of 2006, he said.

Mobility PR will operate via virtual offices in Lake Oswego, near Portland, OR, and Mountain View, in California's Silicon Valley.

Burns is a former account director at the Hoffman Agency whose client roster included iPass, Amazon, HP and Sony, among others. Giddings spent six years in corporate communications at Terayon, and was also VP at Technology Solutions, Inc. (now GolinHarris), at the time the largest high-tech public relations agency in North America.

Mobility technology is an area in which the trio is well-versed.

"This exciting space is part of our DNA," Sidline said. "Melissa is the best PR person I ever worked with. John and I worked at Technology Solutions, and he's got a very keen awareness of the challenges corporate communications people face."

He said the team of three wants to be realistic with their clients and not just throw large sums of money at single efforts. To that end, he said his firm will have teams of professionals focusing on specific areas for clients, such as one who handles public speaking opportunities and awards, while another will deal exclusively with trade press.

"We want to be pragmatic, and not just creative," he said, "We want people to be specialists in opportunities for the client."
