WASHINGTON: Brand Resources Group (BRG) is overseeing a new Home Safety Council (HSC) educational effort to coincide with the start in June of Home Safety Month. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The campaign aims to educate people about an epidemic of injuries: Home-related mishaps cause 20,000 deaths and 21 million hospital visits every year in the US, the nonprofit HSC said.
The effort includes outreach to corporations, consumers, and Congress, and will provide "resource kits" to companies and communities via the HSC's network of several thousand fire and safety experts. The materials include posters, brochures, buttons, stickers, and Spanish-language materials.
"We're doing a lot of media outreach," said BRG VP Shannon McDaniel. "With corporate outreach, we're targeting HR managers and safety directors."
To reach policymakers in DC, the organization will conduct a briefing on home safety on Capitol Hill this month.
Though the campaign runs through the end of June, it complements public, consumer, and lawmaker outreach throughout the year. BRG organized satellite briefings on June 1 between the president of the Home Safety Council, and TV and radio stations around the US.
