REDWOOD SHORES, CA: Airfoil PR has announced plans to open its first satellite office in Silicon Valley, to serve clients such as eBay and PayPal, its principals said.
The Redwood Shores branch of the Southfield, MI-based shop with $5 million in annual fees, opens June 15.
Janet Tyler, agency president, said the growth in the consumer division of Airfoil's business, partly due to more assignments from Microsoft, convinced the firm to expand.
She also said she wants to have a "stake in the ground" to be able to participate in reviews for accounts based in the Bay Area.
Airfoil handles metro-level PR nationwide on behalf of Microsoft. It also leads national and city-by-city PR for several eBay categories, projects, and subsidiaries, including eBay Motors, PayPal, and ProStores.
Consumer is Airfoil's fastest-growing practice area, bolstered by programs for eBay, Starbucks, and American Laser Centers, Tyler said.
Airfoil's business has shifted in the past three years. In 2003, it was primarily a b-to-b shop, but from 2004 to 2005 its business grew 73%, Tyler said.
During the planning stages, Tyler added, Airfoil considered buying a smaller agency or hiring someone to run the West Coast office. But ultimately, it decided that Tyler - along with four current employees - will move from Michigan to California.
Tyler will serve as the GM of the new office.
"We wanted to retain the culture," Tyler said. "It is important to our clients."
