LAS VEGAS: R&R Partners has tapped Kathy Detwiler to fill the newly created position of EVP PR.
In her new role, Detwiler will oversee all aspects of the firm's PR division, both at its Las Vegas headquarters and branch offices in Reno, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, and Washington. She will also work to generate national business opportunities and strategic alliances, and assist with high-profile accounts such as the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority's popular "What happens here stays here" effort, which R&R expects to extend internationally this year.
Bringing on Detwiler is just one of the firm's recent attempts "to elevate our game," said Billy Vassiliadis, R&R Partners' CEO and principal. While the agency is already staffed with "many talented" PR professionals, he said, it was time to "invest in people with national-level credentials."
Most recently the head of an eponymous Pittsburgh-based PR firm, she comes to R&R with more than 20 years of agency and client-side experience, including stints as VP and director of PR for PNC Financial Services and director of marketing communications for database software company Microrim. As executive principal and general manager of the Food Group at Publicis in the mid-'90s, Detwiler's efforts included an extensive rebranding campaign on behalf of the then-underutilized soy bean; for the next decade, she would work to transform the lowly legume into one of the food industry's hottest commodities.
R&R is a firm whose "time has come," Detwiler said of her decision relocate and recommit to working for someone other than herself. "This is an agency that's just ready to break through, [and] it's very, very cool."
