WASHINGTON: Brunswick Group last month informed the US Justice Department that it has begun providing global communications support to Rosneft, the Russian state-owned oil and natural gas giant.

In a contract running from March 1, 2006, through Feb. 27, 2007, and valued at $40,000 a month for US-focused activities, Brunswick will assist the energy company in supporting communications connected with Rosneft’s planned initial public offering on the London Stock Exchange this July of a privatized portion of the company.

More generally, Brunswick’s activities on behalf of Rosneft will also include developing US messages and materials on the company’s activities; surveying US policymakers, think tanks, investors, and media on attitudes about the company; arranging briefings between Rosneft executives and US officials, business groups, and other; and developing crisis communications plans.
