WPP’s Howard Paster resigns from board

LONDON: WPP Group PLC announced that its EVP of PR, Howard Paster, has resigned from the board of directors.

LONDON: WPP Group PLC announced that its EVP of PR, Howard Paster, has resigned from the board of directors.

Paster will remain in his current position through the end of the year and continue thereafter with the company either part-time or as a consultant.

“I’m working full-time until the end of the year, at which point I’ll remain with WPP under a different capacity,” said Paster, who said he wanted more free time. “I’ll be 62 years old in December and I’ve been working fairly intensively my entire life.”

Paster, who is currently a director on the WPP board, joined the company in August 2002 and is a former chairman and CEO of Hill & Knowlton. He was also a director of the White House Office of Legislative Affairs for President Bill Clinton.

No decision on a successor has been made yet. Paster said WPP Group CEO Sir Martin Sorrell has known about his plans for some time, but the company’s recent annual meeting prompted the public announcement.

“We just had an annual meeting and had to elect a board, and it made no sense to stay on the board if you’re resigning in six months,” Paster said.
