KANSAS CITY, MO: The Kansas City Royals has appointed former TV broadcast journalist Toby Cook VP of PR. Cook's duties will entail managing the Royals' community and charitable efforts. He will begin work on Aug. 7.
Said Cook, in a statement, "It's funny because I got into the broadcasting business because at age 9 I decided that I wanted to be the play-by-play man for the Royals. My career never took me to that track. I only worked in sports for about a year, and settled into news and anchoring. I thought the only chance I might have had to work for the Royals was if Denny Matthews demanded I be his heir-apparent."
Cook, who joined WDAF-TV (Fox 4) in Kansas City in 1998, has been a co-anchor on its weekday morning newscasts for the last six-and-a-half years.
