WASHINGTON: The National Parent Teachers Association has hired Widmeyer Communications on a project basis to provide support for the Back to School Media Briefing, an August 10 event in New York.
The nearly six million-member strong association is hosting the yearly event exclusively for the first time.
The day-long effort, timed for the beginning of the new school year, focuses on issues facing parents, teachers, students, and media advocates for children and local PTA. Attendees include national media and PTA members.
Jason Smith, SVP and group director at Widmeyer, said the agency was tapped to handle media outreach, materials, messaging and logistics.
"The PTA has partners for various pieces of the day, but the event is PTA funded," said Smith. "They own the day."
He added that about 50% of the agency's business is education, "but we have significant chunk of public health and healthcare work." He said that, during the event, a number of longer-term initiatives will be announced.
