WASHINGTON: WPP Group announced on August 17 that it had acquired the public affairs firm DSG Strategies, also known as Dewey Square Group (DSG). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 1993, DSG specializes in grassroots advocacy, coalition building, and other public affairs work. The firm employs 53 people in offices in Washington, Boston, Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Tampa. It will continue to operate independently within WPP, according to a press release.

DSG, whose customers include Fortune 500 companies and major trade and professional associations, had unaudited revenues of $12.5 million for the year ended Dec. 31, 2005, with gross assets of $2.9 million, according to a statement WPP filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

WPP, in addition to longtime holdings like Burson-Marsteller, Ogilivy PR, and Hill & Knowlton, has made a number of recent acquisitions, including earlier this month the Austin, TX-based public affairs firm Public Strategies.
