NEW YORK: A review of the most valuable mergers and acquisitions of the summer shows that Citigate Sard Verbinnen had the strongest season of any of the large M&A communications firms.
But the data also indicates that a significant number of large companies continue to choose to handle their deal-related communications in-house.
According to information on the summer's 11 largest deals, provided by the financial intelligence firm mergermarket, Sard worked on four, including Phelps Dodge's aborted bid for Inco Limited and Kerr-McGee's acquisition by Anadarko Petroleum. Kekst & Company and Finsbury Group both handled two of the deals, including both the agencies' work on behalf of the management of HCA, in the $30 billion-plus management buyout that was the summer's largest deal.
Brunswick Group, Joele Frank, Robinson Lerer & Montgomery, and Stanton Crenshaw each handled one of the deals, according to mergermarket.
But five of the eleven largest deals involved no outside agency.
