WASHINGTON: Qorvis Communications announced October 2 that it had acquired ad agency Sparky's Garage, based in Leesburg, VA, for an undisclosed sum.
Qorvis managing partner Michael Petruzzello said his firm has partnered with various ad agencies, including Sparky's, but having Sparky's in-house should help Qorvis provide clients with more "integrated" services.
In addition to providing advertising for corporate relations and other public affairs clients, "they will add a lot of creative ideas and a way of thinking in our non-ad business," Petruzzello said. "With most PR, there is some element [of advertising], especially today when you do more online [efforts] because you [need the] instant impact of a hard-hitting message."
Sparky's cofounder Bill Replogle is now a Qorvis MD. Joining as directors will be John Pfeifer, who will focus on creative design and development, and Ingrid Vax, who prior to joining Sparky's managed advertising for a major new Qorvis client, PhRMA.
Sparky's will be renamed Qorvis Advertising and move to its Tyson Corner, VA, offices. Clients have included Harley-Davidson, ExxonMobil, and the American Cancer Society.
Qorvis also recently announced the hiring of 10 additional staffers, five of which will work solely or in part on the new PhRMA account, Petruzzello said. The 10 new hires include American Spectator senior editor and Washington Examiner columnist Quinn Hillyer and ex-CBS News reporter and anchor Eric Alvarez. Both will be MDs.
New Qorvis directors also include Kathleen Corcoran, previously PR and publications director for Volunteers of America, and Jarrett Bens, formerly of Luntz Maslansky Strategic Research.
