India's Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh gave a lively address today pointing out to attendees that India and China will soon be, in a macroeconomic sense, crushing the rest of the world under their collective heel.

By 2030, India is projected to be the world's largest nation with 1.4 billion people, and India and China will combine for 40% of the world's population. They will also form two of the globe's three largest economies, although their per capita incomes will remain ridiculously low compared to the Western powers.

Ramesh added that he believes that the West will continue to exert dominant influence on the world's mass culture even when it is surpassed in economic terms. He also derided the theory that this century will be defined by "a clash of civilazations," and praised globalization's most recent incarnation as the first that was not accomplished at gunpoint.
