Despite naysaying from well-known and well-informed pundits, Google recently announced that it will purchase YouTube to the of $1.6 billion. While players like Veoh.com remain very much in the mix, Google has added a much-vaunted user base to its the offering it has bet a lot on (taking Froogle off its homepage to make room for Google Video, for one). Politicians and the ONDCP (sub req'd) have taken the opportunity to use YouTube to get their content online. Now that the startup is aligned with Google, perhaps more companies will take the opportunity to follow suit.
