NEW YORK: HDNet has hired Goodman Media to promote Dan Rather Reports, the veteran newsman's weekly program that is slated to launch November 14.
President Tom Goodman said most of the firm's work is media-relations based, focusing on a core audience of "newsies," but expanding to those who may also have an interest in high-def TV.
He added that Rather is "heavily involved" in the PR plans for the program.
"We'll try to take advantage of his notoriety, but also more importantly use the name... to attract the attention of many new people who may not be familiar with HDNet and high-definition TV," he said. "We'll obviously look to go to the key places to get not only the largest audience, but an audience that we think will be interested in this program."
Goodman said that while new media outreach won't initially play a big role in the PR plans, it is something they will monitor.
"We want to reach a wide audience," he said. "Strategically, we will look to do things in [new media]. We don't want to ignore it, but at the same time we'll go in a different direction early on."
