Detroit: General Motors has selected Hass MS&L as its diversity AOR to handle media and community outreach targeting the African-American, Asian, Hispanic, women, and GLBT markets. Hass MS&L is currently one of GM's global firms.
Edd Snyder, executive director of corporate communications at GM, and Steve Harris, VP of global communications at GM, both said that while the company has targeted these communities for years, it felt its diversity communications activity needed some refinement, "more consistency," and a larger team supporting it.
GM issued the RFQ in late August and made a decision earlier this month. The turnaround was quick because GM knew exactly what it wanted, said Snyder. It was sent to three general market firms - all with dedicated diversity communications activities - and one diversity-specializing firm, which declined to participate.
The account, which runs through 2007, is being co-directed by Bob Campbell, VP in Hass MS&L's Detroit office; and Raul Garza, SVP of special markets in MS&L's LA office, where the agency's diversity capabilities are based.
