SANTA CLARA, CA: Hill & Knowlton is set to start work on storage tech company Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) December 1 as its US AOR, after winning a three-way competitive pitch.

H&K will handle core media relations, industry analyst relations, IR support, and executive communications.

The incumbent firm was a WPP consortium, led by Blanc & Otus. H&K previously helped that PR operation focus on extending HDS' brand-leadership position in enterprise storage.

"It made sense to have one [firm] take an integrated approach to the new opportunities and challenges that we face," said Steven Zivanic, senior director of corporate communications at HDS, via e-mail.

H&K teams will report to Mary Ann Gallo, HDS' director of global PR.
