ATLANTA: The Home Depot has ceased working with Porter Novelli for its merchandising calendar business.

"We enjoyed working with PN this year, but as we build out our internal marketing PR team, we will use agencies on more of a project-by-project basis for merchandising PR," said David Sandor, Home Depot VP of PR, in an e-mail. "It is possible that we will work with PN in the future."

The firm began working with Home Depot this February.

Sandor said the bulk of the work not handled by Home Depot's internal communications would be handled by two agencies on retainer. The company will "continue to utilize MS&L and Imre Communications for all other agency needs." Home Depot also works with Ketchum on occasion.

"Imre has worked with us for several years on aspects of merchandising PR," Sandor said. "We still work with Ketchum on a limited basis throughout the year. MS&L primarily works with us on corporate matters, sponsorships, and brand-related assignments."

Sandor said the company will also continue to "contract on a project basis with other agencies depending on the assignment." He noted that Home Depot's communications model is to manage the majority of corporate and marketing PR with an in-house team, which at times will be supplemented with agencies on a project and long-term basis.

Julie Winskie, a partner at PN, said the assignment was a project-based arrangement "that was a fairly long multi-month project that ended very amicably."
