NASA announced that it aspired to make the moon habitable by 2020, a plan that the Christian Science-Monitor applauded with the title "Houston, we have a goal." Researchers at Johnson Space Center are making two Earth-based mock-ups to develop lunar habitation systems where shuttle crews will live on the moon for periods of up to six months. Judging by the media attention bestowed upon the announcement, NASA, which has suffered through recent tragedies and scuttled flights, has found something that the public could get behind. The two designs are called the Sortie and the Outpost - each satisfying different requirements of lunar living.
