NEW YORK: BlogTalkRadio has launched a free platform that allows PR professionals and citizen broadcasters to host a live radio show using only a phone or Internet connection.

CEO and founder Alan Levy said the service allows users to broadcast programs with five phone lines at once, a feature that provides a more interactive product — something he dubbed "podcast 2.0."

Fleishman-Hillard planned to use the service this week to host a show for client H&R Block. Currently in beta form, Levy estimates the service will attract one million listeners this month.

"We have authors doing live book readings, comedians trying out new material… people who want to promote an idea or service," he said. "This is a great platform for it."

Levy said he plans to officially launch the service in the second quarter, adding listener profiles and click-to-call capabilities to the site.
