MIAMI: As part of a broader commitment to diversity, PRSA is joining forces with Hispanic PR Wire (HPRW) to conduct a series of professional development breakfasts across the country dedicated to multicultural PR.
"All of our members ...realize that the world is changing and our communications [strategies] are changing," said Rhoda Weiss, PRSA chair and CEO. "We really understand the importance of giving our members the tools."
Dubbed "The 2007 Hispanic Public Relations and Marketing Strategies Tour," it will visit about 19 cities nationwide during the year including Orlando, San Antonio, Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York.
Manny Ruiz, president of HPRW, said the breakfasts will not only include presentations on best practices in media relations and measurement for multicultural PR, but also time for professionals to network. He added that HPRW would engage Black PR Wire and US Asian Wire when requested to provide a more rounded presentation of multicultural PR.
The breakfasts are open to PRSA members and non-members. Ruiz noted that at the kickoff breakfast in Miami on January 25, about 70% of attendees were non-members.
In addition to the breakfasts, Weiss said PRSA is also working to revise its diversity toolbox, a document which provides guidance and best practices on diversity initiatives.
"We really want this to be more than a one-year program," Ruiz said. "We want it to be lasting."
