FRANKLIN, IN: Franklin College's student-run PR agency, Franklin Communications, is launching a Web site on April 1, www.midwestculturaltourism.org, intended to provide real-world PR experience and promote cultural tourism in the Midwest.

The Web site is unique for its wide reach, showcasing attractions in the 12-state region. It will target Midwesterners with weekend getaway and family travel ideas. When it launches, the site will include stories about the Minnesota Sculpture Garden and Metropolis, IL, a town with a Superman theme.

"We wanted to do something that gets us thinking outside the borders of [Indiana]," said Ray Begovich, associate professor of journalism. "It also gives [students] portfolio pieces for potential internship or entry-level employers."

Amy Vaughan, director of the Indiana Office of Tourism Development, thinks it's a great idea.

"Hopefully the college can find a way to partner with state tourism offices," she said.
