Whether or not you think Alberto Gonzalez should step down (i.e. - his conduct is worthy of dismissal), wouldn't it behoove the Republican Party candidates to sit with President Bush and convince him to convince Gonzalez it was for the good of the party's 2008 chances to step down? I don't necessarily think Gonzalez's prime concern is whether the Republicans win in '08 or not, but he probably does care what Bush thinks. And, from what we can gauge, Bush cares about his legacy. And that legacy, unpopular as it is now, will be further plagued if the candidates have to run against his poorly received decisions. Gonzalez staying, it seems, is one of those that are not getting people clapping these days.
