I spoke with the American Petroleum Institute (API) today for an article we’re doing this week on the recent increase in its media relations efforts in light of the announcement that the average cost of a gallon of regular gas reached $3.18 Monday—an .11 increase from two weeks ago and nearly a quarter's increase over this time a year ago.

Jim Craig, VP for policy and communications at API, said activity at the institute was “hot and heavy” with regards to media inquiries.

One of the new tacts the API is taking in terms of its outreach efforts is to target bloggers.

“It’s a little bit new for us but we’ve been engaged with bloggers,” Craig said. “We’ve been doing blog conferences on the topic [of increasing gas prices]. We’re really engaged with them now.”
