"The way The Price is Right presents products is unique in a number of ways," says Ben Robertson, president of Hollywood, CA-based marketing firm Game Show Placements. In many of the show's regular features, "the camera comes in close up on the product and describes it," he says. "Boom! Your product becomes star of that segment. It's a tremendous brand opportunity, with very high viewer attention."
Now, according to the Internets (specifically Rosie.com), Rosie O'Donnell is pondering her future as a potential replacement (via HuffPo). Now, Ro is obviously a lightning rod for controversy and, fair or unfair, many people disagree with her -- and when they do, they do so vehemently.
In a Q&A session on her blog, an author, purportedly named Kami, wrote:
I just emailed CBS and let them know of a 50 state sponsor boycott it they put you on to host TPIR. No way that you are going to gay that good show up.
It's safe to say that O'Donnell takes more debated positions than Barker (who doesn't wish for a controlled animal populace?), so it will be interesting to see if brands shy away from the showcase for fear of threatened boycotts or animosity.
UPDATE: We'll never know! Ro says no.
