NEW YORK: Middleberg Communications has opened a practice dedicated to "sustainability" that it calls "the next step in [CSR]." It will be led by Thomas Basile, ex-communications head for the Environmental Protection Agency.
"We [will] help companies develop, then communicate eco-smart practices, products, and workplaces," Basile said. "Companies have learned that if you're going to do this... it has to be authentic."
Its services will include environmental auditing of companies and industries, coalition building, and government relations, along with normal PR and marketing, he said.
The practice's first client is the Zurich-based Sustainable Asset Management Group, a private asset management firm that specializes in sustainable investments.
In a release, agency founder Don Middleberg called sustainability "the most important new practice area in PR since the Internet."
