Today, the Dealbook reports that Blackstone has tapped former Goldman Sachs PR exec, Peter Rose, to become their managing director for public affairs. He'll be working with Blackstone spokesman John Ford.

Blackstone, and the private equity industry as a whole, is having both business issues, problems with how the public views their line of business. I wrote a news story a little while back about the Private Equity Council's mission to educate the media and consumers about what they do and how they work. With this development, it sounds like Blackstone is taking that upon themselves to be a little more open about their work and operations.

With the possibility of increased taxes looming, a sharp drop in stock price following their $4.7 billion June IPO, and an increased desire for consumers to understand private equity in light of the stock market ups and downs we've been witnessing, they couldn't have picked a better time to start using a bit more PR.
