I was wondering why a cluster of influential Web magazines suddenly returned to New Orleans’ post-Katrina recovery. Thanks, New York Times for shedding light on the topic.

John Huey, Time Inc. editor in chief, brought 12 of his editors to New Orleans, with intentions to “put the journalistic weight of 10 big magazines behind a particular topic.” Ten stories reported progress, or lack-there-of, on various subjects. The two-year anniversary timing is obvious, as is a wake-up from the aftermath's exhausted media coverage and what Richard Stengel, editor or Time, called “New Orleans fatigue.”
“This is going to have more life on the Web than it’s going to have in the magazines, I think,” he said. To keep the spotlight on New Orleans, Time Inc. hopes to sponsor a presidential debate in the city next year, though the plans are still tentative, Mr. Huey said.
