For those who missed it, late last week the FDA announced it would begin to require sunscreens to carry a new rating given to it by regulators. Just two months ago I spoke to Richard Wiles, executive director of Environmental Working Group, who lamented the FDA's inability to act on the matter. To try to get things moving again, the group released a database that catalogued the effectiveness of over 700 brands of sunscreen. Wiles said he hoped putting the issue back in the media would help pressure the regulators to address the issue. Mission accomplished.
