According to Valleywag, the end of TimesSelect appears to be paying off, traffic-wise. Particularly for the formerly gated Op-Ed section. Stats from compete.com say that the Op-Ed section pulled 560,000 unique visitors last week, more than double what it got in the last week of September. The main NYTimes.com site scored 3.8 million visitors, up from 3.4 million.

Lesson: People are cheap.
