Coincidentally, I wrote this week's Cause Survey (sub req'd) feature and, this weekend, took on my first assignment with New York Cares, a volunteer organization here in the city. With the gift of abnormally warm weather, I walked three pit bull mixes (one was a pit bull/basset hound... the cutest thing you'll ever see) all over East Harlem.
My walking partner and I were exhausted after being dragged for blocks. But, we couldn't stop talking about how happy we were to get these poor creatures out of their cages for a little while, get a little exercise, and spend some time with dogs since we can't have one of our own.
One of the results of the PRWeek/Barkley Cause Survey showed that one of the main reasons people participate in charitable acts is it makes them feel good. For us, that was certainly true. Here's a link to New York Cares and its nationwide affiliates.
