In PRWeek's March 6, 2006, issue, Craig McGuire outlined “FMA Live! Where Science Rocks,” a program from NASA and Honeywell International with PR support from Peppercom. Created in response to declining interest in science, technology, engineering, and math careers despite growth in employment opportunities in those fields, the biannual rock tour/educational program is geared toward students in grades five through eight.
“Our core strategy remains to get today's students excited about careers in science and math,” reports Beth Starkin, account supervisor at Peppercom. Some elements of the interactive tour have been updated regularly to keep it relevant and fresh, including wardrobes, music, choreography, and lighting.
Since the original PRWeek story ran, the program has been featured in more than 400 stories, generating 50 million media impressions. Since its launch in 2004, FMA Live! has traveled more than 38,000 miles, reaching more than 140,000 students at 340 middle schools in more than 181 markets in 38 US states and Canada. The fall 2007 tour, launched in September, is set to reach an additional 30,000 students across the US and Canada.
