ALEXANDRIA, VA: The Association of Government Accountants (AGA), which represents more than 15,000 federal, state, and local accountants, has hired Keymer Group to provide US government relations and to develop partnerships with similar organizations abroad.
In a new campaign emphasizing "government accountability" at all levels, the AGA is looking to provide public information about government spending as a way to promote the importance of the AGA and give the group greater influence with lawmakers and government officials, said Keymer Group founder Simon Keymer.
AGA CEO Relmon Van Daniker said that with the general public frustrated over government-contractor scandals and other indications of misused taxpayer funds, an initial focus of the effort will be four-page reports detailing various government spending programs in easy-to-understand terms.
"It's a nice buzzword, 'accountability,' but what does it mean?" he asked. "Traditionally, accountants have spoken in 'accountantese' ... to citizen taxpayers. We want to provide information so people can make decisions."
