SUNNYVALE, CA: Yahoo has chosen GolinHarris to handle its network division's consumer PR.
Ogilvy Public Relations World-wide and Ketchum also pitched for the account.
Jennifer Stephens, Yahoo's corporate communications VP, said the company chose Golin for its "consumer technology capabilities and experience" and its understanding of Yahoo's business.
She said Yahoo will eliminate its smaller firms and charge Golin with the consumer-facing PR for its search components, media properties, homepage, communications applications, and community assets.
She declined to name the firms that would lose business.
Fred Cook, CEO of Golin, said the campaign will have "a lot of moving parts on the consumer side. But our overall thrust will be continuing to make the brand exciting and relevant to consumers."
Yahoo's goal is to continue to enhance its overall brand image, he added.
Cook declined to cite the contract amount, but said it would be a "large and important" account for Golin.
Yahoo will still use Hill & Knowlton for mobile applications, Voce for influencer outreach, and OutCast Communications for business and trade media outreach.
