NEW YORK: Effective July 1, Edelman's US president and CEO Pam Talbot will retire from her post. Matthew Harrington, current president of the Eastern region and chair of the global corporate practice, will be appointed to the position.
Talbot has filled the US CEO role for 12 years; she has been with the firm for 35. Harrington has been with the Edelman for 18 years. He will be responsible for the agency's US business, totaling $267 million in revenues in 2007. He will report to global CEO Richard Edelman.
Harrington said the timing of the announcement was intended to coincide with the planning and budgeting for the new fiscal year, which also begins July 1.
"Integration becomes the mantra of a lot of the work we're doing going forward," added Harrington. "It's continuing to capitalize on Edelman's position at the crossroads of consumer marketing, technology, and corporate positioning."
Nancy Ruscheinski, current president of Edelman's Midwest region, has also been appointed president and COO. She will be responsible for the strategic oversight of the agency's operating companies, such as StrategyOne. She will also oversee the performance of a number of practice areas, serve as global chair of Edelman Digital, and continue as head of the Midwest region from the Chicago office, where Talbot was based. Ruscheinski has been with the firm for 21 years and will report to Harrington.
"Over the [past] several years, Pam has really involved [us]," said Harrington, "so we're familiar with the aspects of running the US leadership team."
