WASHINGTON: Fleishman-Hillard International Communications is backing a new business-centric blog that brings together public affairs executives from 11 business associations.

WASHINGTON: Fleishman-Hillard International Communications is backing a new business-centric blog that brings together public affairs executives from 11 business associations.

Called Bizcentral.org, the blog includes weekly postings from communications leaders at the American Petroleum Institute, American Trucking Associations, Business Roundtable, CTIA, National Association of Chain Drug Stores, National Electrical Manufacturers Association, Nuclear Energy Institute, Organization for International Investment, Personal Care Products Council, Salt Institute, and US Telecom Association.

Fleishman SVP of digital public affairs Pat Cleary conceived of the blog and brought together the initial participants, a number of which employ other PR firms. He said that no blog existed previously that brought together business associations to discuss issues of shared interest.

“There are some of our 11 participants who already have a blog, but this brings them together,” said, Cleary, who will personally post on the blog. “The idea is that each group brings its own community of eyeballs. Hopefully those people will read those posts and then maybe the next page. The people that each group will bring to the blog are philosophical allies of the other 10 groups.”

Cleary said that when he wrote a blog for his previous employer, the National Association of Manufacturers, he typically allowed any and all comments to be posted, but that each participant at Bizcentral.org will set his or her own policies.

Other associations may join as bloggers sometime in the future, Cleary said.
