Hundreds of outstanding women (and a handful of outstanding men) gathered at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York for the 9th annual Ebony Outstanding Women in Marketing and Communications luncheon today.

Several communications veterans were honored including Marvet Britto, founder and CEO of The Britto Agency; and Patti Webster, CEO of W&W Public Relations; who were honored with the PR awards.

I spoke with Chelsea Stalling, the corporate communications manager for Johnson Publishing, the publisher of Ebony and JET, who handled PR for the event. The communications team started reaching out to the media about six weeks prior to the luncheon, and invited print, broadcast, and online journalists to attend and cover the awards ceremony. At the event, there were opportunities to interview and photograph the recipients and presenters of the awards, including Patti LaBelle, author Michael Eric Dyson, and Linda Johnson Rice, the president and CEO of Johnson Publishing.
