Full-featured mobile devices are excellent tools for enhancing communication with clients, journalists, and colleagues, and for maintaining one's productivity while out of the office.
However, there is a limit to every professional's accessibility. Typically, senior management's expectations regarding your availability increase as your role and responsibilities do. This can be challenging for mid-level pros who are not used to such around-the-clock expectations from their superiors.
The easiest way to resolve this is to schedule a meeting with your managers to discuss your concerns and review their expectations regarding after-hours availability. Emphasize your appreciation for the device and stress your commitment to delivering outstanding results, responsiveness, and client service. At the same time, express your desire to maintain a proper work-life balance, and propose parameters for being contacted after hours.
You may be surprised by how open your supervisors are to develop a good solution, given your current position and duties.
