President Bush conducts relatively few press conferences compared with many past presidents, but yesterday he was the first president to conduct an on-camera interview for an entirely online audience.

In the interview conducted by Politico chief political correspondent Mike Allen and hosted on the Yahoo News homepage, Bush said among other things that a fast withdrawal of troops from Iraq, as proposed by Democratic presidential candidates Clinton and Obama, would “eventually lead to another attack on the United States.”

Bush also said he stopped playing golf in 2003 out of respect to US soldiers overseas because “"I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander-in-chief playing golf," - a comment which this morning's CNN newscast spent considerable time debating.
