The request went out May 19 and the pitching process is expected to last through the summer, said Lance Longwell, director of public relations for Siemens Medical Solutions, the US arm of the German company's healthcare unit.
He declined to state the number of agencies that will pitch and the size of the contract. Current AOR Coyne Public Relations, which was originally hired for a US contract only, is planning to pitch, said Kevin Lamb, VP of the Parsippany, NJ-based agency's healthcare practice.
“Any time we change the scope of work, it's a company policy to go through this process,” Longwell said.
Only US-based agencies with global networks or wholly-owned subsidiaries in other countries were invited to pitch, he added. The selected agency will provide media relations and campaign support for the medical imaging, diagnostics, and health information technology branches of Siemens Healthcare, the global health division of Munich, Germany-based Siemens AG.
Siemens Medical Solutions is based in Malvern, PA.
