Packers coach responds to Fleischer's possible hire

GREEN BAY, WI: Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy, in a press conference on August 3, responded to reports that the football team hired former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer to help the team deal with the PR saga surrounding Brett Favre, who returned to the team after announcing his retirement from football on March 6. When asked about Fleischer's hiring, McCarthy said, "He was here. He spoke to the team. I had an opportunity to speak with him. Very impressed with him." When asked if Fleischer will have an ongoing role for about a month with the team, McCarthy said, "I think so, I think that's probably someone on the fourth floor. I don't know the specifics of it." Fleischer, now the president of Ari Fleischer Sports Communications, was in Green Bay on July 31 to speak to the team about media relations, in a planned event completely separate from what is going on with Favre, according to a report by the Associated Press.
