BEIJING: Hill & Knowlton's CEO and chairman, Paul Taaffe, carried the Olympic torch yesterday in Beijing on behalf of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIV Olympiad (BOCOG), which the PR firm represents.

Taaffe carried the torch for about 200 feet, or 57 meters, and the agency said it believes it is the first time an H&K representative has done so.

“We have been pleased with the help Hill & Knowlton has given us and this is in recognition of their work," Wang Hui, director of the communications department for BOCOG, said in a statement.

Taaffe, who has been in Beijing since Monday, August 4, said in a statement that he was "very proud to have this opportunity on behalf of Hill & Knowlton to show our support for BOCOG and the Beijing Olympic Games.”
