SAN RAMON, CA: Chevron is amid a review for an agency to support its downstream business and marketing communications.
The oil company's downstream business includes refining, refuels, supply, trading, transportation, and lubricants. The task also includes marketing the company's consumer facing brands – Chevron, Texaco, Caltex, and a network of retail outlets, according to Dave Samson, GM of public affairs at Chevron.
Samson said the company issued a request for information from 12 agencies, and will soon narrow its search to five. The final round will include three firms. Chevron plans to make a decision by October.
“Our aim is to pick the best team of people [versus] a particular agency,” Samson said via e-mail, adding that the company has followed key members of its external PR team to other firms.
“We are not seeking an [AOR],” he added. “[We are] seeking those that bring a certain expertise to a particular need that we have.”
Cohn & Wolfe, the incumbent for the downstream business, is pitching for the account, Samson said. A call to the agency was not immediately returned by press time.
