Designer Yansi Fugel has taken on the identity of a fashion editor named Ella Branford. The character is one of three fictional avatars created as a digital tactic to promote her new travel line, Travel Jersey. In September, the avatars, including the editor, a widower, and a zoologist, will provide information on the line's different pieces and looks, as well as a travel itinerary, as inspired by the avatars' destinations.
Erica Maniscalco, brand manager for Travel Jersey, explains that Fugel will unveil the avatars on a monitor in her showroom in New York and on buyer line sheets showing the sketches colors, styles, etc. The sheets, according to WWD, will be laid out like itineraries. Maniscalco adds that Fugel is not working with a PR agency and that she came up with the concept on her own.
Back to reality, Diane Von Furstenberg has accepted a column in Departures as herself. According to Portfolio, she'll write about her jet-set adventures, starting with the November/December 2008 issue, and she's expected to illustrate her columns with her own photography. DVF is already the designer of a self-named collection and president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Is there such thing as too much PR?
