SAN DIEGO: Porter Novelli Life Sciences (PNLS) and FischerHealth, both Porter Novelli subsidiaries, have merged into one unit, the firm announced today. The new entity will use the PN Life Sciences name. Staff size will nearly double to 50.

The combined unit will better serve clients as the markets continue to converge, said Carin Canale, PNLS president, who retains her post.

LA-based FischerHealth, whose clients mainly include medical device, diagnostics, and health information technology companies, moved into PN's Los Angeles offices in July. The life sciences unit now has offices in San Diego, LA, New York, and Boston.

PNLS, then called Atkins & Associates, and FischerHealth were acquired by PN, a member of the Omnicom Group, in 2005 and 2003, respectively.

The subsidiaries have worked together on clients in the past. Recently added clients VivoMetrics, deCode Genetics, and Compugen were pitched by the new unit.

PNLS traditionally focused on science and enabling technologies, emerging pharmas and biopharmas, diagnostics, and biorenewable energy, as well as IR services, said Canale, which FischerHealth did not.

“People are saying, ‘You're losing your name,'” said Michelle McAdam, EVP for FischerHealth. “But we can leverage the bigger, broader, more global name that Porter Novelli has.”
