PRWeek reported in July that SMG planned to acquire DC-based Livingston, and that the deal would close in August.
Maggie Fox, CMO of Ontario-based SMG, announced on her blog that the plan had fallen through due to cultural differences between the organizations and management. She said,“...integration would not be in the best interests of both firms.”
Livingston CEO Geoff Livingston said in a vlog entry that “To continue forward would be forcing square pegs into round holes.”
Reached by telephone, Livingston added, “When two companies try to come together, sometimes they don't merge well.”
He added that the company is not “proactively” seeking another acquisition deal at this time.
