It is the first global PR contract for Siemens Healthcare, which houses the company's medical imaging, diagnostics, and health information technology divisions, said Lance Longwell, PR director for Siemens Medical Solutions.
Budget terms were not disclosed for the annual contract, which was signed August 28. Fleishman is providing media relations and campaign support. Matthew Doering, SVP and senior partner, at Fleishman is leading the account.
Although Longwell said he spoke with a number of agencies after an RFP was issued May 19, only two were invited to pitch. He declined to say which agencies.
Coyne Public Relations declined to say whether it was included in the formal pitch, said Kevin Lamb, VP of the healthcare practice. The Parsippany, NJ-based agency had maintained an AOR relationship with Siemens Medical Solutions for nearly two years.
Fleishman-Hillard was selected because of its broad, integrated approach, its global footprint, and its demonstration of "a really strong command of our core business issues,” said Longwell.
The agency has 80 offices across the world, including one in Berlin, Frankfurt, and Munich. Siemens Healthcare is based in Erlangen, Germany, and Siemens AG is based in Munich. Siemens Medical Solutions, which is leading the PR initiative, has its headquarters in Malvern, PA.
“They understood our need,” Longwell said. “And have the global footprint to execute it.”
