There are a number of ways to tell if your days of employment are numbered. One possible fire alarm is that all of a sudden you are excluded from important company meetings. Your job responsibilities might also start to be given to other team members, and it might start to seem as though you are kept out of the loop more often.
If your company is being purchased by a larger firm or involved in a merger, that might also provide a warning sign. When two companies become one, positions are duplicated and employees are often let go due to job-duty overlap.
Finally, a sign that you might be let go is that your company has announced major layoffs and/or earnings losses in the press.
However, it's important to take heart. Getting fired can often bring about positive change. When seeking a new job, you might end up getting a better one that is more suited to your strengths and interests.
