Jonathan Buchanan, manager of communications for AME BC, said this is the largest PR plan ever undertaken by the association, as the value of mineral exploration in BC has grown to $416 million last year, up from $25 million in 1999. Its membership has also increased to 5,000 people, up from 2,800 about three years ago. “That brings a greater need to advocate for mineral exploration, but also engage community in terms of how it can help them as well,” said Buchanan.
PR Associates will handle community relations, including First Nations, as well as investment and government relations. Other key communication areas include around corporate responsibility. PR Associates will also support media relations around AME BC's 2009 Mineral Exploration Roundup annual conference in Vancouver from January 26-29.
