Facebook says it will soon launch Facebook Connect, a feature that will enable users to access and interact on their Facebook account from other Web sites, broadcast their actions, and view their “friends'" actions. Among the first Web sites participating are Digg, Hulu, and Discovery.com.
While supporters view the system as an innovative tool for a more social Web, skeptics highlight privacy issues that surface when technologies allow users to share data across multiple platforms. Facebook will now be able to track and collect user data beyond the home site.
